Planning to bring your fiancé to the U.S. is an exciting step. To apply for a fiancé visa, you’ll need to gather the right documents. Missing even one can delay the process or cause a denial.

Proof of relationship

To prove your relationship is real, include photos together, text messages, emails, and travel records. Sworn affidavits from friends and family who know your relationship also help. You must show you’ve met in person within the last two years unless there’s a valid reason you couldn’t.

U.S. citizen documentation

You, the petitioner, must prove your U.S. citizenship. A copy of your birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, or certificate of citizenship works. Include proof of any name changes if your documents don’t match.

Form I-129F and supporting forms

Form I-129F is the official petition for a fiancé visa. Along with this form, submit a passport-style photo of each of you, a statement of intent to marry within 90 days of arrival, and a signed Form G-325A if required. If either of you had previous marriages, include divorce or death certificates to prove those ended legally.

Evidence of financial support

You’ll need to show you can support your fiancé once they arrive. Submit Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, with your recent tax returns, W-2s, or pay stubs. Bank statements and employment letters also strengthen your case.

Passport and visa photos

Include one passport-style photo for each person. Make sure they meet the current guidelines for size, background, and facial expression. These photos go with the forms and help identify both parties.

Interview preparation

Once approved, your fiancé will attend an interview at a U.S. consulate. They’ll need a valid passport, the visa appointment letter, medical exam results, and all the original documents you submitted. Staying organized can make the interview go smoothly.

Each required document plays a part in showing your relationship is genuine and meets the visa rules. Putting them together clearly and correctly helps immigration officials understand your case and move it forward.
