USCIS recently established a renewal process for the DACA applicants who were granted Deferred Action two years ago when the program started. The fees will be $465. Applicants can start their renewal process as early as four months prior to expiration of their existing status.
Moreover, eligible applicants who did not take advantage of the program earlier are also urged to apply for status. In order to be eligible for the renewal program, applicants must meet this criteria:
- Have continuously resided in the U.S. since the DACA approval;
- Have not departed from the U.S. on or after August 15, 2012 without authorization;
- Have not been convicted of a felony, significant misdemeanor or 3 or more misdemeanors;
- Do not pose a threat to national security or public safety
Renewal applications, if approved, will grant another two year period to individuals, allowing them to work, attend educational institutions and hold drivers licenses.
